Celebrate Jimmie Rodgers at the Premier Party for PBS' "Country Music"

September 15, 2019, 6:30 pm9:00 pm

Join The MAX and the Riley Center on Sunday night for Episode 1 of Country Music, Ken Burns’ new miniseries.  The series chronicles the history of a uniquely American art form—from southern Appalachia’s songs of struggle, heartbreak and faith to the rollicking western swing of Texas, from California honky tonks to Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. The first episode in the series includes never-before-seen footage and photos of Jimmie Rodgers, The Father of Country Music. Rodgers called Meridian home during most of his career as a railroad worker and traveling entertainer. Multiple Grammy Award-winning country singer and songwriter Marty Stuart of Philadelphia, Mississippi is also prominently featured in the series. Refreshments available. Free and open to the public.
