Country music star Marty Stuart and Film maker Barb Hall will host Q&A discussion
MERIDIAN, Miss. (October 3, 2019) – Country music legend Charley Pride will be the subject of a special film screening October 24 at the Mississippi’s Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAX).
The film Charley Pride: I’m Just Me traces the improbable journey of the singer from his humble beginnings as a sharecropper’s son in Sledge, Mississippi to becoming one of Nashville’s biggest stars. The screening will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Pride grew up on a cotton farm before becoming a professional baseball player and later a popular star on the country music stage. His meteoric rise as a trailblazing country music star is also featured in the Ken Burns miniseries Country Music recently aired on PBS. Pride, now 85, is one of several country music icons offering commentary throughout the miniseries.
After the screening, there will be a Q&A session with film maker Barb Hall and musician Marty Stuart.

Narrated by Grammy-nominated country singer Tanya Tucker, the film features original interviews with country music royalty, including Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker and Marty Stuart, who will be at the October 24 screening. The feature also includes on-camera conversations between Pride and special guests.
The film reveals how Pride’s love for music led him from the Delta to a larger, grander world. In the 1940s, radio transcended racial barriers, making it possible for Pride to grow up listening to and imitating Grand Ole Opry stars like Ernest Tubb and Roy Acuff. In the mid-1970s, Pride became the best-selling performer for RCA Records since Elvis Presley. Although best known for his biggest hit “Kiss an Angel Good Morning,” Pride had 52 top ten hits including 30 songs that made it to number one.
Pride is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and in 2017 the Recording Academy honored Pride with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the GRAMMY Salute to Music Legends awards ceremony.
