Exhibition—Mississippi: Lost and Found, Adam Trest

Mississippi: Lost and Found is a study of the regions of Mississippi from the coastal meadows to the black prairie and the species, both threatened and common, that make up those ecosystems. Each region unique and each one holding its own magic and memories, this exhibition is the visual representation of Trest’s adventure filled remembrances on canvas. Drawing inspiration from the traditions and everyday aspects of Southern Culture, Trest’s work has been described as “sophisticated whimsy.” His study of both Early American and Eastern European folk art can be seen in the movement and repetition of his compositions, and his interest in the flora and fauna of the southeastern United States is evident in the organic forms found in his work. A Laurel native, Trest is an artist and illustrator whose work has been featured on HGTV’s Home Town.
